SEC Scholar Athlete of the Year, Dartmouth NASA Win, Mechanical Engineering Award (April 2019)

Kristin Quah, TN B 2019, has been named as one of two 2018-19 Southeastern Conference H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athletes of the Year. Awardees receive a $20,000 post-graduate scholarship. Read the announcement.

Quah is majoring in biomedical and electrical engineering at Vanderbilt University. She has been named All-American in bowling three times, played a key role in Vandy’s NCAA title run in 2018, and two-time NCAA Elite 90 Award winner. Quah will pursue a Ph.D. while doing MRI research at Stanford University.

A team of Dartmouth College students was recently named winners of the 2019 NASA BIG Idea Challenge for “its innovative design for a Mars greenhouse that can grow food and sustain a crew of astronauts on a future mission to the red planet.”

The team is made up of undergraduates at Dartmouth’s Thayer School of Engineering, including Peter E. Mahoney Jr., NH B 2019; and Interim Dean of Engineering Laura E. Ray, Ph.D. (NJ D ’84). Click here to read an article and watch a video for details on the project.

The Sumter Item published a profile on this year’s recipient of the Eastman Award for Excellence, Carter C. Dwight, SC A 2019. According to the article, the award recognizes the most outstanding senior in the department of mechanical engineering at Clemson University.

Dwight is a senior, interned for Sen. Lindsey Graham in Washington, D.C., and also worked as an operations intern for Nelson Mullins Riley and Scarborough, LLP, in the intellectual property division. Upon graduating, Carter plans to attend the University of Georgia School of Law to pursue a legal career in intellectual property.
