UF 5K, Amgen Scholar at Mercer, & Exoskeleton Technology (March ’19)

On March 16, the Florida Alpha Chapter of Tau Beta Pi, at the University of Florida (UF), hosted their annual Pi Day 5K. The event allows participants to get active physically and in their local community as proceeds go to support the FL Alpha Chapter’s MindSET activities.

The run takes place at Westside Park in Gainesville. At the end of the run free pie is given out. This year’s event coordinator was Shannon B. Brown, FL A ’14, an NSF Fellow graduate student at UF and former FL Alpha Chapter vice president.

R&D Magazine published an article on Indego Personal, an exoskeleton developed by researches at Vanderbilt University. Michael Goldfarb, Ph.D. (AZ A ’89), is one of the researchers and a professor of mechanical engineering at Vandy and said, “I think it is the first and only exoskeleton that we’ve really designed with the idea of being able to use it independently.”

The lightweight exoskeleton technology can automatically adjust the robotic assistance as needed. Read the article for more information.
