Comedian Engineer Pi Day Shows, Stanford Knight-Hennessy Scholar, & AAAS Leshner Fellows (March ’19)

Tau Bate engineering comedian Don McMillan, PA A ’81, will be celebrating Pi Day (3.14.19) in his “Nerd Hometown” of Sunnyvale, CA! Grab your slide rule and join him for a night of non-repeating, non-terminating laughs on March 14 at Rooster T. Feathers.

Stanford University has announced the 2019 class of five Knight-Hennessy Scholars. According to the announcement, the Knight-Hennessy Scholars program aims to develop an interdisciplinary community of future global leaders to address the world’s most complex challenges through collaboration and innovation.

Taylor C. Harris, CA G ’18, is one of the five scholars. She earned a bachelor’s in biomechanical engineering at Stanford and will pursue an MD at Stanford School of Medicine. She was an undergraduate researcher, first author of a brain injury piece published by Annals of Biomedical Engineering, and a varsity member of the Women’s Lightweight Rowing team that won four national championships.

The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) has announced the 2019-20 cohort of Alan I. Leshner Leadership Institute fellows. See the full list of fellows here, two of which are Tau Bates:

Oge Marques, Ph.D. (FL E ’87), professor of computer science & engineering at Florida Atlantic University. His research focuses on the intelligent processing of visual information.

Leia A. Stirling, Ph.D. (IL A ’03), assistant professor of aeronautics & astronautics at MIT. Her research quantifies human performance and human-machine fluency in operational settings through advancements in the use of wearable sensors.
