NASA Chief Flight Director, ME Dual Gift, & Jobs in Academia (Sept. 2018)

NASA has named Holly E. Ridings, TX D ’97, its new chief flight director. She will manage the group of 32 active flight directors and flight directors-in-training who oversee a variety of human spaceflight missions.

According to the announcement, Ridings is the first woman to lead the elite group that directs human spaceflight missions from the Mission Control Center at NASA’s Johnson Space Center. Ridings has been with NASA since 1998, after earning her bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Texas A&M University.

Both the University of Texas and Texas A&M University have received gifts in support of mechanical engineering from alumnus J. Mike Walker. The former chairman, president, and CEO of Dril-Quip Inc., made the dual gifts this week.

Walker earned a bachelor’s degree and a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from Texas A&M and a master’s in the field at UT. Each of the schools’ mechanical engineering departments will be named in his honor. Click here to read more about the opportunities to be provided to students.
