MN Engineer of the Year, Scholar Athlete, & GA Engineer of the Year (March 2017)

Rachel E. Pichelmann, P.E. (IA A ’09), was recently recognized as the Minnesota Federation of Engineering, Science, and Technology Societies Young Engineer of the Year during the organization’s annual awards banquet. At the same event, she also received the Young Engineer Award for the Society of American Military Engineers. Pichelmann is a professional engineer and certified floodplain manager at Short Elliott Hendrickson engineering firm.

She attributes a 4-H project in high school to her decision to seek an engineering degree from Iowa State University. Read the news article for more biographical details.

The Landmark Conference has named Guido M. Saccaggi, DC B 2017, the men’s swimming & diving senior scholar athlete for the 2016-17 season. Saccaggi will earn his mechanical engineering degree from The Catholic University of America (DC); is a 16-time All-Conference selection; and earned 10 individual Landmark Conference Championship titles.

He holds school records in the 500-freestyle, 1000-freestyle (also conference record), and the 1650-freestyle. During his senior year, Saccaggi served as team captain and led the Cardinals to their first Landmark Conf. Championship Title. The 2016 recipient of the Georgia Engineer of the Year in Government Award is Raymond J. Wilke, P.E. (OH B ’81), for “his outstanding contributions to the engineering profession, the public welfare and humankind.” Wilke serves as senior watershed director of the department of watershed management for the City of Atlanta. He has held numerous other roles during his more than 35 years as a civil engineer.

According to the article from the University of Cincinnati, Wilke has managed and designed numerous projects for municipal, state, federal and industrial owners across 13 states and Washington, DC. He has also authored several papers and is a certified professional in erosion & sediment control.
