Newly Installed Chapter, Student Body President, & WVU Celebrations (March 2017)

On March 4, in Rexburg, Idaho, the 253rd Chapter of Tau Beta Pi was installed at Brigham Young University-Idaho. A total of 38 undergraduate engineering students, 13 alumni, and one eminent engineer were also initiated. A full recap of the events will be available with pictures in the Summer 2017 issue of The Bent magazine.

In addition, there was an article about how the chapter was established on the BYU-Idaho newsroom. The student president of the local chapter at ID Delta, Patrick J. Fisher, ID D 2018, a civil engineering major, was interviewed. The chief advisor for the new chapter is Adam J. Dean, Ph.D., P.E. (UT G ’05), a mechanical engineering faculty member at BYU-Idaho.

Jack M. Ayres, KS G 2018, was recently elected as the student body president at Kansas State University. Ayres is a chemical engineering junior. His vice president will be Olivia Baalman, a computer science major.

The pair “ran on a ‘Your Degree’ platform, with plans to improve students’ academic advising experiences by making the university’s Degree Audit Reporting System more user-friendly, and promoting and supporting initiatives to improve retention rates.” Click here to read the news article.

West Virginia University (WVU) is celebrating its 150th birthday. In honor of this occasion and in conjunction with Pi Day, the WVU Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resource will feature “Pi”-ala-Mode and the local Tau Beta Pi chapter will host the “Pi” Face Challenge with faculty from the college on Tuesday, March 14.

According to the event page, both activities will take place in the lobby of the Engineering Sciences Building. There will be free pie and ice cream and an animated GIF photo booth.
