Churchill Scholar, HS HOF, & ACIF Scholar (Jan. 2017)

Chris B. Cooper, NC A 2017, has been awarded a 2017 Churchill Scholarship. Cooper is a senior majoring in chemical engineering at North Carolina State University. He plans to pursue a master’s degree in chemical engineering and biotechnology at the University of Cambridge (UK), beginning in the fall of 2017.

According to the announcement, Cooper is a 2016 Goldwater Scholar, a researcher creating soft electronic devices, and active in raising money for the Krispy Kreme Challenge to benefit the North Carolina Children’s Hospital. His future plans include pursuing a Ph.D., obtaining a university professorship, and creating energy-harvesting devices.

Norwalk High School (OH) has selected five alumni to be inducted into its Hall of Fame for 2017. Among the inductees is Robert M. Factor, Ph.D. (CO G ’66), a computer systems engineer. He earned his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Denver, a master’s and Ph.D. from Case Western Reserve University.

On January 19, the Alabama Concrete Industries Association (ACIF) hosted its annual business meeting. Michael R. Dunn, AL B 2017, was chosen as the ACIF scholar recipient from 61 applicants. He is a civil engineering major at the University of Alabama.

In addition, Steven M. Jones, AL A 2017, was awarded the first Sam Reed Memorial Scholarship. Jones is a civil engineering major at Auburn University. Click here to read more about the ACIF event and this year’s scholarship recipients.
