On March 31, the University of California San Diego Jacobs School of Engineering hosted ECE Day to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the electrical and computer engineering department. Christopher R. Ellis, CA Y 2017, co-led the ECE Day planning committee, which included other members of the CA Psi Chapter of Tau Beta Pi.
Irwin M. Jacobs, Sc.D. (NY D ’56), the founding Chairman and CEO Emeritus of Qualcomm & Board of Trustees Chair of the Salk Institute was the keynote speaker. Ellis said for future ECE Days, he wants to reach out more broadly to non-ECE majors and expose them to the exciting progress in the realm of electrical engineering. The Wisconsin Alpha Chapter of Tau Beta Pi at the University of Wisconsin-Madison recently hosted the 17th annual Tau Beta Pi Mile Run. This year’s event raised $2,500 for OccuPaws Guide Dog Association, a local organization providing guide dogs free of charge to the blind in Wisconsin. The weather was snowy and windy (see image below) as participants completed the 5k (pi) and 10k (2pi) races, but everyone enjoyed pie and prizes afterwards.
Approximately 40 Tau Beta Pi students, advisors, district directors, and Association officials attended the 2016 District 6 Conference in Nashville, TN, on April 2. The Conference was hosted by the TN Beta Chapter of Tau Beta Pi at Vanderbilt University. Attendees enjoyed a Friday evening meal, an alumni/professional panel, updates on the Association, hands-on engineering activities, and much more. The image below is of the alumni/professional panel taken by TBP Director of Alumni Affairs Tricia E. Gomulinski, SD A ’98. Summaries of other 2016 District Conferences will appear in the upcoming issues of The Bent magazine and The Bulletin.
