Distinguished Alumni, Scholz Symposium, & Seismic Advisory Panel

Robert D. Taylor, CA K ’82, is one of three to be recognized at the 2016 California State University, Northridge (CSUN), Distinguished Alumni Awards. Taylor is founding partner and CEO of Centinela Capital Partners, LLC. He graduated from CSUN with a degree in engineering and is being honored for being “a financial industry leader and nationally recognized advocate for economic justice.”

On Thursday, April 7, the 2016 Paul D. Scholz Symposium on Technology and its Role in Society will be held at Macbride Hall Auditorium on the campus of the University of Iowa (UI). According to the UI College of Engineering news announcement, the free symposium was named in 1993 to honor the late Paul D. Scholz, Ph.D. (WA A ’60), a 20-year Tau Beta Pi IA Beta Chapter advisor, associate dean of the UI College of Engineering (1979-1992), and inductee of the Legacy of Iowa Engineering.

This year’s symposium will include three panelists talking about their work and experiences. Robert B. Campbell, IA B ’81, is one of the panelists. He is an associate principal with Fisher Dachs Associates and is the architect behind the new Voxman music building on the UI campus. The co-sponsors of this year’s event are the IA Beta Chapter of Tau Beta Pi, alumni of Tau Beta Pi, and the UI College of Engineering.

The Governor of Texas, Greg Abbot, has named the members of the advisory committee for the study of the causes of earthquakes in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The technical advisory committee is made up of nine members and the project is being led by the University of Texas Bureau of Economic Geology.

Kris “K.J.” Nygaard, Ph.D. (AZ A ’85), is one of the committee’s members. He is a senior stimulation consultant for ExxonMobil Upstream Research Company. He received his bachelor’s (in aerospace engineering), his master’s, and his Ph.D. degrees from the University of Arizona.
