Larry A. Simonson, Ph.D., P.E. (SD A ’69), has been selected by the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology (SD Mines) Alumni Association Board of Directors as the new Alumni Director beginning April 1, 2016. Dr. Simonson is a development officer, professor emeritus, and was a faculty member for 32 years in the electrical and computer engineering department, including four years as department chair at SD Mines.
He also served Tau Beta Pi with distinction as Association President from 2006-14. He is still currently active as an advisor to the South Dakota Alpha Chapter of TBP, where he was also selected as the 2002 TBP Outstanding Advisor.
Twenty candidates for the 2015-16 Senior CLASS Award® in collegiate hockey have been announced. “To be eligible for the award a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.” Theo Di Pauli von Treuheim, NY M 2016, was chosen as one of the NCAA men’s ice hockey student-athletes who excel both on and off the ice.
Theo is a senior forward on the Union College (NY) men’s hockey team majoring in bioengineering. He was named the 2014-15 Union Athletics Junior Scholar-Athlete, is a two-time ECAC Hockey All-Academic honoree, a Barry Goldwater Scholarship recipient, 2015 Tau Beta Pi Scholarship recipient, and current vice president of the NY Mu Chapter of Tau Beta Pi. The Oak Ridge Today is reporting that Shira A. McWaters, P.E. (MA A ’93), has been hired as the Public Works director for Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Currently, McWaters works for Tata and Howard in Flagstaff, Arizona. Her “expertise is in leadership, management, evaluation, design, and construction.”
