Innovator, Top Chapters & Suit Award

Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) recently named Jeremy P. Hitchcock, MA A ’04, as WPI’s 2015 Innovator of the Year. Hitchcock is co-founder and CEO of Dyn Corporation, a leading online traffic management and Internet performance provider. He co-founded Dyn as a WPI undergraduate in 2001. According to the news article, Hitchcock was recognized for “creating a globally renowned Internet performance monitoring service, and continues to make charitable contributions toward education, business, and the WPI community.”

At the recent 2015 Tau Beta Pi Convention, many alumni and collegiate chapters were recognized for exceptional work during the 2014-15 academic year. The R.C. Matthews Outstanding Chapter Award went to the Alabama Epsilon Chapter, at the University of South Alabama, with an honorable mention for the Ohio Iota Chapter, at Ohio Northern University.

The R.H. Nagel Most Improved Chapter Award went to the Alabama Delta Chapter, at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, and an honorable mention for the Indiana Beta Chapter at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. Tony M. Allen, OR A ’81, has received the L. David Suits Award from ASTM International. Allen is a state geotechnical engineer for the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT). He specializes in geotechnical engineering with a focus on foundation and wall design, landslides, geosynthetics and geotechnical seismic design. He has been with WSDOT since 1983.

The Suits Award “recognizes individuals who have shown extensive commitment to the geosynthetic field through exemplary contributions that have resulted in a significant growth of knowledge, testing, testing equipment or products. Allen has been a member of ASTM Committee D35 on Geosynthetics since 2013.” Read more about Allen, with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in engineering from Oregon State University, and the award.
