Alisyn M. Malek, MI G ’12, was recently profiled by an editor at LinkedIn. Malek is an investment manager at General Motors (GM) Ventures LLC and has previously worked for GM in other roles such as lead engineer, global engineering business manager- electrification, and technical lead.

In the post, Malek’s decision to switch to investment from technical initiatives is discussed. Malek went for the job that was most self-fulfilling even if it was not the most popular. She explains her career path in and Q&A as well and says, “It takes people a second to understand that I am not a purple alien. I am a young female that has automotive engineering experience.”

The Plumbing Engineer announced that the IAPMO Group has hired Barry A. Johnson, P.E. (AL B’ 87), to the Uniform Evaluation Service staff as a senior engineer. According to the article, Johnson has “nearly 30 years of technical experience in design and construction as a civil/structural engineer.” He spent the past 23 years working in both technical services and evaluation services with ICC. He earned his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering at the University of Alabama.

“It has always been rewarding to help manufacturers gain a wider entry into the marketplace and to work with the building safety and design professionals to make their jobs easier,” Johnson said.
