Engineers Week Events, February 2015

On Tuesday, February 24, from 8-9pm Teach For America will celebrate Engineers Week “by hearing from two engineering majors who took their skills to the classroom.” Brandi A. Freeman, AL B 2011, is currently a high school chemistry teacher with the Bergenfield Board of Education in New Jersey. She will discuss her experiences teaching STEM disciplines and answer questions. Register for the webinar here

The Maryland Delta Chapter of Tau Beta Pi, at the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC), will host the closing speaker for UMBC’s E-Week festivities on Thursday, February 26. The speaker will be Steve M. Storck, Ph.D. (MD D ’09), who earned both his undergraduate and graduate degrees in mechanical engineering from UMBC. “His involvement in Baja has led the team to its current success. He turned down multiple top engineering schools to continue at UMBC and obtained his Ph.D. in mechanical engineering last year. He was personally recommended by Freeman A. Hrabowski III, Ph.D., UMBC President to a friend at one of the top research labs in the country.” Click here for more details on the lecture

The Miami University (OH) College of Engineering & Computing will hold its annual Engineering Week Banquet on Wednesday, February 25. Tickets are on sale and can be purchased at the CEC Dean’s Office. As part of the banquet, the Ohio Xi Chapter of Tau Beta Pi “will be recognizing students for high academic achievement.” The keynote speaker for the evening will be Shalendra Porwal, managing principal at Technology Solutions International Ltd.
