The Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) has announced the election of nine to the class of 2014 SME College of Fellows. “Recipients are recognized by their peers and the manufacturing community as key contributors to the social, technical and educational progress of manufacturing.” See the full list and detailed bios

Richard J. Furness, Ph.D. (MI G ’87), is one of the newly elected Fellows. Dr. Furness is manager of global manufacturing engineering methods for powertrain manufacturing engineering at Ford Motor Company. He was cited for being a past chairman of the executive committee for the Manufacturing Engineering Division of ASME, serving as an associate technical editor for ASME’s “Journal of Manufacturing Science and Engineering” and the “IEEE/ASME Transactions on Mechatronics. He received his bachelor’s, master’s, and Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan.

The California Alpha Chapter of Tau Beta Pi at the University of California, Berkeley, is getting ready for fall 2014 election and initiation of new members by producing a music video parody (cover) of “Fancy” by Iggy Azalea. The video is intended to provide information on the chapter, its members, and help recruit new candidates. (Warning: Explicit Lyrics)

Tau Beta Pi alumna Kira Delk, CA Q 2013, works as a civil designer for KPFF Consulting Engineers. She will be representing KPFF Los Angeles at an upcoming career fair at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) on October 9. “We at KPFF are always looking for passionate, hard working, and creative engineers, and as an alumni I know that CSULB students encompass all of the above,” said Delk.
