Luke M. Barbara, OH G ’09, was recently featured by The Ohio State University (OSU) as the Director of the University’s newest Global Gateway in São Paulo, Brazil. “Gateway offices are located in key parts of the world that allow the university to form international partnerships, establish a worldwide presence and connect Buckeyes with opportunities around the globe.”

Barbara graduated from OSU in 2010 with a degree in chemical engineering. As an undergraduate, he spent a semester abroad in Brazil and decided to move there after graduation. Currently, he is Founder & CEO at TreinaLink and a partner at Veedro. Click here to read the feature story, including what Barbara had to say about Brazil. “São Paulo in one word? I think it’s: energy,” Barbara says. “It’s full with the energy of life, of business, of culture … and I think it’s going to be an increasingly important city.”

On October 9, Data Analysis for Social Good will host a free webinar, “Detecting Poverty with Satellite Imagery.” The presenter for the webinar is Kush R. Varshney, Ph.D. (NY D ’04), a research staff member with the Data Science Group in the Mathematical Science and Analytics Department at the IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center (NY). Dr. Varshney received his bachelor’s degree in electrical and computer engineering from Cornell University and holds Ph.D. degrees in both electrical engineering and computer science from MIT.

Members of Data Analysts for Social Good can register for tickets by logging-in, while non-members can register with Eventbrite. The webinar is scheduled to take place from 1-2pm (CDT).
