Christian Brothers University (CBU) has appointed Siripong Malasri, Ph.D. (TX D ’82), as Dean of the School of Engineering. Currently, Dr. Malasri is a professor of civil engineering at CBU, serves as the interim director of the Graduate Engineering Program, and Director of the Healthcare Packaging Consortium. He has been a faculty member at CBU for 25 years, including a previous term as engineering Dean. For more information, read the new release
A ceremony was held earlier this summer for the Tiger Twelve Class of 2014 at Louisiana State University. The award recognizes current, full-time students, who are seniors, have a cumulative GPA of at least a 2.5, and have best demonstrated the seven basic principles outlined in LSU’s Commitment to Community. Shelby K. Pursley, LA A 2014, was one of the twelve honored at the ceremony.
She graduated this year with a degree in biological engineering and a minor in chemistry. She served as president of both the LSU College of Engineering Council and the Biological Student Organizations, as recording secretary for the Louisiana Alpha Chapter of Tau Beta Pi, and conducted research as one of the Chancellor’s Future Leaders in Research. She will pursue a Ph.D. in the fall at MIT.
NASA is reporting that astronaut Michael J. Massimino, Ph.D. (NY A ’84), has taken a full-time position with his alma mater Columbia University. Dr. Massimino’s NASA experience includes two shuttle missions to service the agency’s Hubble Space Telescope, and in 2009 he became the first astronaut to tweet from space.
