Engineering Honors & Traditions

The Delaware Engineering Society recently chose Joseph Jakubowski, P.E. (DE A ’01), as the 2014 Young Engineer of the Year. According to the article, Jakubowski was nominated “because he is regarded by his peers as a leader who regularly takes time to offer meaningful project and career advice. He inspires those around him to respect the profession and to have a passion for their work.” He is currently a geotechnical project manager with Duffield Associates.

The University of California, San Diego Jacobs School of Engineering blog profiled the California Psi Chapter of Tau Beta Pi for their Pi Day activities. Inspired by the College’s “long held tradition of dropping objects from tall buildings” the chapter dropped a 13-inch, 4.5lbs cherry pie from the third floor of the SME building. After the drop, the CA Psi chapter treated those in attendance to free pie. It does not get much better than that, unless there is video of the pie splatter

The Florida Alpha Chapter of Tau Beta Pi at the University of Florida was recently voted as one of the top three engineering student organizations of 2014. Way to go Emily A. Hester, FL A 2013, president; and Shannon B. Brown, FL A 2014, vice president.
