Commencement, Convention, & Induction

The University of Arizona recently awarded Marianna Yanes, AZ A 2013, with the Centennial Achievement Award during the Winter Commencement. Yanes graduated with a degree in biosystems engineering and was recognized for “academic integrity, overcoming challenges to achieve a college education, and for being the first to graduate from college in her family.”

The news article details Yanes achievements and her story: “Her philosophy is that life is too short to dwell on personal difficulties when there are so many serious problems in this world that need attention.” She plans to attend graduate school and hopes “to own her own greenhouse company that will feed the undernourished.”

Summary information on the 108th Tau Beta Pi Convention is now available on the Association’s website. The 2013 Convention saw 559 TBP members attend, the most ever. You can read the Convention minutes, the summary of Convention business, and see the ratification ballot on Tau Beta Pi Constitution and Bylaw amendments approved by the Convention.

The Ohio Lambda Chapter of Tau Beta Pi at Youngstown State University recently held its fall induction ceremony where 12 new members of the Association were initiated (seven juniors, four seniors, & one graduate student). Read the article from The Vindicator (OH) for the name of the inductees, information on the 2014-15 chapter officers, and on the chapter’s chief advisor Elvin B. Shields, Ph.D. (OH L ’74).
