Convention Information & Scholar Athletes

The Kentucky Alpha Chapter of Tau Beta Pi at the University of Kentucky had a historic 2013 Convention in Ames, IA. The chapter received the J.D. Froula most improved membership award, the R.H. Nagel most improved chapter award, and the R.C. Matthews outstanding chapter of the year award. This is the first time in the history of the Association that one chapter has won both the R.H. Nagel and R.C. Matthews awards in the same year.

In addition, the chapter received recognition with a Secretary’s Commendation award, a Project award, and a Membership Growth Award. Finally, the chief advisor to the KY Alpha Chapter, Bruce L. Walcott, Ph.D. (IN A ’81), was the recipient of the 2013 Tau Beta Pi Outstanding Advisor award. In a news article on the University of Kentucky College of Engineering’s website Dr. Walcott attempted to compare the achievement, “I guess the best analogy for this accomplishment from a UK perspective is if Coach Cal’s basketball Wildcats were to win the SEC title, the National Championship and go on and win the NBA Championship all in one single season!”
