Tau Beta Pi has announced the class of 2013-14 Scholars. There are 210 Scholars that will receive cash awards for their senior year of engineering study. This year saw several new named Scholarships. Read the press release for more information and to see the complete list of recipients.
Last week, Amar G. Bose, Ph.D., passed away at the age of 83. Dr. Bose, MA B ’52, was founder and chairman of the Bose Corporation. He used basic concepts of physics in his research of stereo speakers. His “inventions included the popular Bose Wave radio and the Bose noise-canceling headphones, which were so effective they were adopted by the military and commercial pilots.” Click here for the obituary from The New York Times
He joined Tau Beta Pi during his time as an associate professor at MIT. The Bose Foundation made a gift in 2011 to Tau Beta Pi to fund TBP Scholarships. To date the gift has sponsored seven scholarships.
Esmat F. Salahat, TX H ’80, was recently recognized as the Fort Worth District’s Corps of Engineering 2012 Engineer of the Year. He serves as the structural engineer technical expert for the district. He earned a bachelor’s and master’s in civil engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington. Read the article
