The News-Gazzette (IL) is reporting that Andreas C. Cangellaris, Ph.D. (IL A ’81), has been named the next dean of the University of Illinois (UI) College of Engineering. Currently, Dr. Cangellaris is the head of the department of electrical and computer engineering at UI.

He will be the interim dean until the next meeting of trustees on July 24. Read the article for more biographical information on Dr. Cangellaris.


Five outstanding members of Tau Beta Pi have been selected as 2013 Laureates. The TBP Laureate program exists to further the Association’s second fundamental purpose of “fostering a spirit of liberal culture in engineering colleges.” All five of this year’s Laureates excelled in areas beyond their technical majors. Look for the press release to be available shortly on the Tau Beta Pi website.


Earlier this summer, Nadim M. Adiz, Ph.D. (MS B ’79), assumed the position of interim vice president for academic affairs and provost. Dr. Aziz had been chairman of the civil engineering department when he was appointed associate provost for faculty development and support a year ago. His appointment is effective beginning July 1.
