The Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Program has announced the 2013 Goldwater Scholars. (See the full list) There are 32 Tau Beta Pi members that are 2013 Goldwater Scholars, three that will soon be initiated into Tau Beta Pi, and another six that are eligible to join Tau Beta Pi this semester.


The Alabama Alpha Chapter of Tau Beta Pi at Auburn University recently hosted the first annual Egg Drop Competition. The proceeds from the event went to support the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Lee County (AL). More than 50 contestants competed by building a contraption out of a kit and then inserting a raw egg into the contraption and dropping it onto a patio from 20ft. The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) recently profiled the Ohio State University’s Venturi Buckeye Bullet team as they prepare to challenge the world land speed record (LSR) for electric cars. The current LSR is 307 mph, but the VBB is targeting 400 mph for their battery powered car.

Dr. Giorgio Rizzoni, MI G ‘81, is the faculty advisor for the VBB team and provided some history on speedy electric cars. “The three fastest electric cars ever built by anyone have all been built here at Ohio State by our students,” said Dr. Rizzoni. Read the full article
