The University of Texas has announced a contribution from James Truchard, co-founder, president and CEO of National Instruments Corp., to the Cockrell School of Engineering “to help develop the Engineering Education and Research Center (EERC), which will house a new student-focused teaching lab.”

Dr. Gregory L. Fenves, dean of the Cockrell School (NY D ’79), said, “The EERC will provide students and faculty with needed space for interdisciplinary research and hands-on projects.” Read the news release


Tau Beta Pi has announced two upcoming opportunities for alumni to meet, network, and socialize. The first will take place in conjunction with the installation of the Pennsylvania Mu chapter of Tau Beta Pi at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College. On Saturday, January 26 the chapter will be installed. Local TBP alumni are welcome to attend the initiation at 4pm and the banquet at 6pm. Both events will take place on campus. The New York Times recently published an obituary for the passing of Tingye Li, “an electrical engineer whose calculations helped guide the development of the laser and propel the dizzying increase in the speed of fiber-optic communication.” He was 81 and passed away in December 2012.
