Leaders in Engineering, December 2012

Dr. Leslie K. Guice, LA G ’78, has been approved as the 14th president of Louisiana Tech University. He will begin as president on July 1, 2013. Dr. Guice is an alumnus of LA Tech and has held several positions at the University. Most recently he was executive vice president, before that he served as vice president of research and development, and dean of the college of engineering. Read the news story from KNOE-TV

The University of Wisconsin-Madison has named Dr. Ian M. Robertson, IL A ’83, as the next dean of the College of Engineering, effective March 1, 2013. Currently, Dr. Robertson is an engineering professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and director of the National Science Foundation’s Division of Materials Research.

A team of engineering students from Michigan Technological University with support from General Motors’ Chevrolet engineers will unveil newly designed hand-cranked three-wheel cycles this weekend during the Army-Navy college football game. “The cycles will be used by the Achilles Freedom Team of Wounded Veterans in future competitions.” Five senior design teams from Michigan Tech worked on the project, dubbed Huskies Helping Heroes.
