The INAMORI Foundation has announced the 2012 Kyoto Prize Laureates. Ivan E. Sutherland, Ph.D. (PA G ’59), was one of three recognized with the award. Dr. Sutherland was recognized for pioneering achievements in the development of computer graphics and interactive interfaces in the prize field of information science.
He is currently a visiting scientist at Portland State’s Maseeh College of Engineering and Computer Science. Dr. Sutherland previously received the Turing Award in 1988. He has a degrees from Carnegie Mellon University, Caltech, and MIT. He has been on the faculty of Harvard University, the University of Utah, and Caltech. He was also a vice president and fellow at Sun Microsystems, Inc. (1991-2009).
