The Washington Post recently interviewed James M. Gaughan, OH G ’84, the new chief operating officer of Metron Aviation. Gaughan has also worked at Lockheed Martin and the FAA Oceanic Advanced Technologies and Procedures.
In the article, he discusses the progression of his career from college, to becoming a “chief engineer leading a large billion dollar program,” to his current position.
Time Warner and the University of Maine partnered to host a recent engineering expo for more than 1,500 local K-12 students. Dean of Engineering at the Univ. of Maine, Dana Humphrey (NH A ’78), said, “Engineers are critical to solving some of the biggest problems in the world today.” Organizers of the expo felt the event was a success for increasing interest in engineering careers. A mechanical and civil engineer who owns and operates Entech Energy is planning on building a wind turbine on Block Island, RI. Chris Warfel “has placed a classified advertisement seeking to lease at least 1.5 acres, on which he would build a 100 kW wind turbine.
According to the article from the Block Island Times, a turbine of this size “could generate enough energy to supply 60 non-energy efficient homes or 90 moderately efficient homes.”
